Huge loss as lorry overturns, over 60,000 eggs destroyed

The lorry was reportedly transporting the eggs from Wangige in Kiambu County to Kisii.

A trader is counting losses believed to be running into over a million shillings after a lorry that was transporting eggs overturned on the Narok-Mai Mahiu road on Thursday.

Witnesses said the lorry overturned at around 10am leading to the destruction of over 60,000 eggs.

"The vehicle overturned at around 10am, the owner has probably made a loss of Sh1 million and above," a passerby said.

The lorry was reportedly transporting the eggs from Wangige in Kiambu County to Kisii.

A video posted online showed some passersby salvaging what was left of the cargo.

Currently, the cost of an egg ranges between Sh16 and Sh18 depending on location.
