- Kindiki added that the arrangement between the immigration department and Posta to deliver the passports caused them to slow down.
- This comes at a time when passport issuance has been a problem with Kenyans complaining of having to wait for months to access the services.
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has said that the passport backlog at Nyayo House has been resolved.
Speaking on Tuesday, Kindiki said that they discovered a number of challenges while working around the clock to reduce the backlog.
"That backlog which was in the upward of over 120, 000 passports has been technically addressed. It has been resolved," he said.
"In the process of resolving that backlog, we discovered that when we started addressing this challenge and started production of a significant number of passports."
The CS added that the Immigration Department faced a delivery challenge as they were producing more passports than what could be delivered.
He explained that it was due to the day and night shifts where they produced more than 4,000 to 4,500 passports within 24 hours.
"Out of that were only able to release 800, meaning we were creating another backlog of delivery because as long as that passport document is not in the hands of the applicant it is part of the backlog and it is us who have that document.
