Police in Kisumu are investigating a fire incident that burnt down a storage facility and dormitory at Kisumu Boys High School on Sunday night.
According to County Commissioner Hussein Alassow Hussein, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
He stated that the fire was contained with no casualties reported, as all students were accounted for, including a few who were treated for shock.
"We are unable to determine the cause of the fire at this time, but our officers are on-site and are already conducting their investigations," Commissioner Hussein said.
While addressing the media at the school, Regional Education Boss Nelson Sifuna revealed that the dormitory fire affected 260 students.
He explained that the fire originated in the storage area where mattresses are kept.
Teachers and staff quickly moved to the nearest hostel and safely retrieved student's belongings.
"We are grateful that there was no damage to the students' property due to the efforts of the school community," Sifuna said.
He commended the firefighters for their swift response in extinguishing the fire.
He assured parents that there would be a designated desk available on Monday for anyone seeking information or answers regarding the incident.
"This is the third term, and we expect an orderly process because we do not allow crowds during such times," he added.
