Kindiki operationalises Kotulo subcounty in Wajir

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on Monday officially presided over the Operationalisation of Kotulo Sub-County, Tarbaj Constituency, Wajir County.

This is the third sub-county to be operationalized this month.

The CS also commissioned the sub-county headquarters and installation of the first Deputy County Commissioner Farah Hassan Mohamed.

Kotulo Sub-County was created in March 2022 and covers an approximate area of 6,594 square kilometres.

According to the 2019 National Housing and Population Census, Kotulo Sub-County has two Divisions, 12 Locations and 19 Sub-Locations has a population of 28,167 people.

Tarbaj MP Hussein Abdi Barre, MCAs, National and County government officials, and community and religious leaders graced the event.

The government has assured that it is on course in operationalising gazetted sub-counties.

Kindiki had announced that the remaining sub-counties would be operationalised within one year.

The first sub-county to be operationalized by Kindiki was Cherab in Isiolo County, followed by Elang’ata-Wuas in Kajiado West.

The new sub-county offices, Kindiki noted, will enable easy access to government services at local levels and help address security concerns.

Earlier, he had acknowledged that budget constraints limit the simultaneous operationalization of all sub-counties but assured that his office remains dedicated to making it happen.

However, the Interior CS emphasized that the selection of sub-counties for operationalization would prioritize areas grappling with security challenges.
