Nandi ECDE teachers have called on their county government to pay them their salaries as per their payslips.
According to the teachers, they are being paid a minimal special salary while some teachers are on high wages.
“We as Early Childhood Education teachers have suffered a lot. We have been employed in our country but we are serving under special salary. We need what we deserve. We need to get what is in our payslip because we are serving the children of this country,” an ECDE teacher from Nandi said.
“There is the scheme of service which is supposed to be implemented in all counties. But in our county, we are only serving on special salary.”
The teachers have urged Nandi county to balance their wages as they are all equal regardless of the level of their education.
“Some teachers are paid highly while others less and we are all teachers.
"We have diploma, degree and certificate teachers. How come I am earning Sh 15,500 and my colleague somewhere else is earning Sh37,000, Sh40,000? Let us just be paid equally,” Mary Bett said.
However, the county has said that they have fulfilled all of its promises to the teachers and all those who failed to appear to work will be punished.
