The National Security Agencies have recovered 48 orbs, electronic devices, and merchandise related to Worldcoin operations in the country.

Kindiki said these when he appeared before the National Assembly Ad-Hoc Committee on Thursday to clarify the activities and operations of Worldcoin.

The items were found with agents from two companies.

“Tools for Humanity Corporation ' and 'Tools for Humanity Gmbh' were harvesting biometric data, specifically the iris scanning of people in exchange for Sh 7,000 worth of Worldcoin tokens,” Cs Kindiki.

Kindiki said that as part of the investigation, various documents have been retrieved and statements from 26 witnesses and individuals of interest have been recorded.

The Cs further noted that a task force has been established to address the gaps in cybersecurity and cybercrime prevention.

“A task force has been established to develop regulations under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018,” Kindiki said.

Worldcoin is a crypto wallet app launched in the country on July 24, 2023.

It uses a combination of cryptocurrency and biometric registration to create a new kind of global identity service.

Worldcoin was co-founded by Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI.
