The Konza Technopolis has been recognized for excellence in Smart City Development at the recently concluded Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA).
This recognition was conferred during the Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA) at the tail end of the Africa Climate Summit, highlighting Konza as a beacon of excellence in addressing climate challenges.
According to acting CEO John Paul Okwiri, the award signifies Konza Technopolis’ outstanding contributions to Smart City Development.
In his acceptance remarks, Okwiri extended gratitude to the organizers of the APSCA, saying that the award is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the entire Konza Technopolis community.
“This community includes the talented team at Konza Technopolis Development Authority, visionary partners, stakeholders, and the local community. Together, they share a collective commitment to leveraging innovation, technology, and sustainability to confront pressing global challenges, with a particular emphasis on combating climate change,” Okwiri stated.
The CEO insisted that Konza Technopolis is committed to adopting green building systems, non-motorised transportation, utility tunnels, automatic waste collection, water reclamation facilities, landscaping, parks, public facilities, and a national data center.
Konza Technopolis is a city designed to be distinct from its predecessors, with advanced infrastructure, sustainable development practices, cutting-edge communication networks, and market viability.
The city's design promotes high-density, walkable districts, discouraging sprawl and encouraging high-value development.
Okwiri, however, acknowledged that there is still much that needs to be done to achieve the ultimate goal of a Smart Konza.
“The challenges posed by climate change continually evolve, demanding unwavering commitment. Konza Technopolis recognizes its responsibility extends beyond its borders.”
