Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) is set to introduce video and audio call services.

In an announcement, X's boss Elon Musk on Thursday said the new features will work on phones with iPhone Operating system (iOS), and Android.

The features will also be operational on Mac and personal computers.

Musk said that with these calls, users will not need phone numbers to communicate.

"Video and audio calls coming to X: - Works on iOS, Android, Mac & PC - No phone number needed.

"X is the effective global address book That set of factors is unique," he said.

He, however, did not clarify whether one must be a paid subscriber in order to access the services.

This is another of the many changes Musk has affected on the social media platform since he took over as the new owner.

Among other changes he has introduced include; longer videos for premium subscribers up to 2 hours of 1080p quality and 3 hours of 720p quality.

Auto captioning of popular videos on X platform, Airplay support to stream videos to your TV, and improved live broadcasting quality from mobile among others.

Users can also speak in and co-host a Space on the web.
