Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has said that the Western region should back President William Ruto to realise his agenda.

While speaking on Wednesday during a leader's meeting held at State Lodge Kakamega, Mudavadi said that the region stands a better chance to benefit from Ruto’s government.

"Let us not blow hot and cold at the same time. We need to assure the President and his government that we are fully behind him and we will support the transformation agenda he has envisaged for this country,” he said.

"We should be aware that President Ruto means well for our region and that is the reason why he has created time, and out of his tight schedule, come to listen to us, reason with us and talk to us about how we should move along together on matters development."

Mudavadi urged the region to demonstrate true patriotism and stand their ground in working together with the government.

He said that in order for the region to build and move forward, they should be truthful, honest and hardworking to development.

He commended MPs from the region for being focused and steadfast during the Presidents’ tour saying irrespective of their political affiliations they demonstrated maturity and readiness to work with the government.

"I want to encourage leaders to put the interests of the citizens first before self and personal gratifying interests. We need to think about the future of our region, our youth and our development. We must be deliberate and intentional in creating jobs and opportunities for our people," he said.

Mudavadi urged the residents to emulate other regions saying the ultimate goal should be how the locals benefit from the distribution of the national resources.

He said that leaders should desist from engaging in politics that will not benefit the Western region.

"I wonder when I see some of us here behaving like they are more Azimio than the real owners of Azimio themselves. The President is around and some sections of our people are still behaving as if they haven’t acquainted themselves with reality," he said.

"Let this meeting be the second earthquake for the people of Western Kenya. Let this be a game changer in the way we articulate and execute our issues and how we address our challenges. Let us rise above petty politics and unnecessary humour and be serious because there is no time to waste."
