President William Ruto on Tuesday bought a cooking stick from a resident in Vihiga.

The President was addressing Vihiga residents when a man from the crowd handed him a big wooden cooking stick.

The cooking stick was written: Tujenge Kenya kwanza ( Let us build Kenya first), Karibu Vihiga Kenya (Welcome to Vihiga Kenya).

After receiving the wooden cooking stick, the President reached out in his car and handed the man some money.

It is not clear the exact amount of money the President bought for the cooking stick.

He jokingly twisted it to demonstrate how one can use it to cook ugali, a common maize meal in Kenya.

He then put it on his shoulder while smiling and later kept it safe in his car.

He assured the residents that he would bring the cost of food down by lowering the cost of fertilizer.

Ruto also warned them of joining demonstrations saying it will not bring down the cost of living or put food on the table.

Leaders present included Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Prime Cabinet CS Musalia Mudavadi and Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang'ula among others.

The President is currently on a five-day trip in the Western region to launch development projects and meet with leaders. The tour ends on Tuesday.

Earlier, he chaired his first cabinet meeting at Kakamega State Lodge.

This was the first time Ruto held such a meeting in the Western Region.
