Kenya Power has started restoration of power in some parts of the country following a nationwide power outage that started on Friday night.
In a statement on Saturday morning, Kenya Power confirmed having restored power supply at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Areas within the Nairobi Metropolitan considered crucial to the country's operations, also saw their power restored on Saturday morning.
The utility firm also confirmed that it restored power in the Mt Kenya region hours after the system failure occurred.
Kenya power said they are working to restore power across the county in areas affected by the outage.
According to Kenya Power, the countrywide power outage was caused by a fault in one of its production plants.
However, the specific station that witnessed the fault and the specific cause of the fault was yet to be established.
"We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused and we thank them for all their patience," reads the statement.
The nationwide power outage majorly affected Western Kenya, Rift Valley, Mt Kenya regions, and the Nairobi Metropolis.
Some institutions also experienced system failure with their backup generators, resulting in further delays in the delivery of services. Among those affected were Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
