Ex-CAS John Mosonik named Safaricom's non-executive board director

He was appointed to the role following the resignation of founding CEO Michael Joseph.

Former Petroleum CAS John Mosonik has been named Safaricom's non-executive board director.

In a notice, Safaricom said Mosonik will assume the new role with effect August 23.

The former Petroleum CAS got a lifeline following the resignation of founding CEO Michael Joseph.

The telecommunication giant said Joseph's resignation took effect on August 2.

"Michael leaves the Board to focus on other ventures in his life including continuing his role as chairman of Kenya Airways and being a director in various organizations. He will continue to pursue his passions in matters of conservation and community service," it read.

He has served in various capacities at the organization since 2000 including being the General Manager, Chief Executive Officer, Director as well as Chairman of the board.

Mosonik brings a wealth of experience to the company with a rich career profile stretching across industries from Engineering practice in the Telecom sector.

"Mosonik is an astute technocrat with executive experience in both public and private sector administration spanning 35 years," the notice reads.

He holds a Doctoral Degree in Business Administration (DBA) - Strategic Leadership from Northcentral University (USA) and a PhD in Business Administration (Strategic Management) from Moi University, Kenya.

He also holds Postgraduate Degrees in Digital Transformation, Strategic Focus, Finance and Business Administration from renowned international universities; and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering/Telecommunication from the University of Nairobi.

He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (FIEK) and a registered member of the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).

Mosonik vied unsuccessfully for the Bomet gubernatorial seat in the 2022 General election.
