Fafi MP Salah Yakub's convoy on Friday came under attack from bandits at Degega Moments after leaving Galmagala town.
The MP was in Galmagala to condole with the family of the late Abdi Adow, a Kenya Police reservist who had earlier in the day been killed by suspected bandits.
He also attended his burial which was held a the local cemetery.
The MP was accompanied by journalists, elders and clansmen.
The incident happened at Dagega,80KMS from Galmagala town.
The bandits believed to be from a rival clan who seemed well aware of the movement of the convoy waited until the police escort vehicle and the MP's vehicle passed before appearing on the road and cutting off the convoy.
They then proceeded to shoot at two vehicles that were right in front of them badly damaging the windows.
Nobody was however Injured as the drivers sped off while the convoy consisting of six vehicles which included journalists who had accompanied the MP quickly reversed back to Galmagala town.
They however shot dead a 17-year-old boy.
The victim identified as Aden Salat was transporting Miraa from Bura east to Galmagala town.
His body was discovered lying a few minutes away from his motorcycle with his luggage still intact on the motorbike.
Speaking to the Star, a police officer who requested anonymity because he is not authorised to speak to the media confirmed that the MP had recorded a statement in relation to the attack.
“The MP has recorded a statement with us and as always we will carry out an investigation into the incident as we also look for the suspected criminals behind the incident,” he said.
Speaking to the press in Garissa town, th Fafi MP while condemning the attack on his convoy called on the police to expedite the investigation and bring the criminals to book.
Salah claimed that the situation ‘could easily get out of control and escalate to inter-clan clashes that could claim more lives’.
"We are gathered here today to lay to rest one of our own who was killed as he tried to repulse the killers. This incident and many others that have occurred before should not have happened in the first place," Yakub said.
“The reason why we have a government and security officers for that matter is to ensure that the lives and property of its citizens are protected. So when we have criminal elements having a field day killing people at will then as leaders we have every reason to worry,” he added.
Yakub welcomed the planned security meeting slated for Saturday that will bring together all stakeholders saying ‘it was long overdue’.
"This is one meeting that should have happened a long time ago. It is unfortunate that we had to wait until killings occur. I hope and pray that we get to the root cause of these incidents and find a lasting solution," the legislator noted.
"It unfortunate that the same criminals shot dead a young man at exactly the same place where my convoy was attacked. It is my hope and prayer that there won't be more deaths going forward. Peace and security is all we want," he said.
Yakub urged the county to conduct town planning in Garissa saying that it was the genesis of the inter-clan clashes.
"All these land problems are brought by brokers who are taking advantage of the lack of proper planning. The end result is criminals resorting to the advantage of the confusion to kill people. What follows is what we are currently witnessing," he said.
It all started on Tuesday when suspected bandits who were said to be on a revenge mission killed 6 people in the Kunaso area.
The six who were travelling to the border town of Holugho were ordered to alight before being shot dead at close range.
