Over 1000 youths in Mathare will on Thursday hold an empowerment post-demos dialogue in Mathare slums.

The Initiative dubbed ‘Calabash Movement’ will see young people across Mathare have sit-down and deliberate issues affecting them over a calabash of uji, hence the title ‘Calabash Movement’.

“The initiative aims at addressing issues that directly affect the youth in slums in a civilized and organized way and extinguish the proposition that young people can’t be organized or be certain of what they want,” reads the notice.

Leaders including Mathare activist Billian Ojiwa will lead the dialogue.

After the post-maandamano, they will create a platform for understanding opportunities touching on mainly the youth created by both non-government and government entities.

During the anti-government protests, most youths took to the streets to protest against the high cost of living.
