Embakasi East MP Babu Owino arrives at Milimani court on July 21, 2023

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino furiously defended his wife Frida Muthoni as they left Milimani law courts under tight security.

On Thursday afternoon, he was brought before the court alongside six others where they were charged with conspiracy to commit chaos or subversive activities.

As they were making their way out of the court, his wife Muthoni was moving close to the dock so as to get close to her husband who was still under police custody.

He was to be taken to the hospital after the court had given out the orders.

Muthoni's path was however blocked by a police officer in civilian who tried stopping her from getting close to Babu.

A furious Babu in handcuffs quickly turned to the officer telling him to let go of his wife.

"Leave her alone and let her walk in front of me," Owino said.

The lawmaker stopped walking and insisted that Muthoni had to walk ahead of him.

Other officers in the courtroom also told the officer in civilian not to block Muthoni's way and let her get close to Babu.

He then held his wife's shoulders as they made their way out of the courtroom.

Babu Owino has been in police custody since Tuesday after his arrest at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) ahead of anti-government protests.

Muthoni said the MP called her around 11 pm on Tuesday, to inform her about his detention by the DCI.

However, since that call, she had been unable to reach him as his phone remained switched off.

She was later informed that her husband was being held at Wang’uru police station in Kirinyanga county.

Muthoni said upon arrival at the station, she was denied entry despite pleas to see her husband.
