Former IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati has commended his wife Mary Wanyonyi for becoming chairperson of the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA).

Chebukati reminded his wife to remain faithful to the Constitution and the law, even as she discharges her new duties.

He exuded confidence that his wife's expertise and dedication will help in delivering on her new role.

"Congratulations Mary on your appointment as Chairperson of the Commission on Revenue Allocation @CRAKenya! Your dedication and expertise will undoubtedly contribute to the Mandate of the CRA and prosperity for all Kenyans. Keep your fidelity to the Constitution and the Law. Wishing you great success in this important role," Chebukati said in a statement on Monday.

His remarks came shortly after Mary Wanyonyi was sworn in by Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Koome urged the Commission on Revenue Allocation to always strive to meet the needs of Kenyans in every corner of our country.

The CJ said the CRA must endeavour to understand the unique needs and aspirations of each county and ensure they get their rightful share.

"CRA is a pillar of our public finance management, tasked with ensuring equitable sharing of revenues raised nationally among the levels of government. I urge her to uphold these responsibilities with integrity, dedication and the utmost commitment to public service," Koome said.

The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning approved the nomination of Mary Wanyonyi as the chairperson of the CRA on June 29, 2023.

Wanyonyi was vetted for the position on Thursday, June 22, where she pledged to focus on enhancing the country's own revenue generation if she was considered for the job.

She replaces Jane Kiringai who retired after serving for six years.
