Champions Moi Girls Eldoret and hosts Wareng High schools produced superlative performances in their opening football matches of the Uasin Gishu county Secondary Schools Sports Association at Hill School, Eldoret on Friday.

Manda opened the scoring in the 14th minute before Ongola netted six minutes later.

“We have played very well today and we expect to win the remaining pool match to sail to the quarterfinals. Our goal is to defend our title,” said Simiyu.

Kamagut were 2-0 winners over GK Prisons in a Pool 'B' with Faith Kipruto and Miriam Nadupsi on target in the 23rd and 43rd minutes respectively.

Wareng captain Mahier Hussein led by example, bagging a hattrick in a boys' Pool ‘A’ match at Hill School as they beat Moi University High School 3-1.

Hussein struck the opener after 23 minutes and added another in minute 41 before completing his hat-trick in the 45th minute.

Brian Kimurgor scored Moi's consolation in the 57th minute of a game played for just an hour.

Hussein said: “We want to win the county title and represent the county at the regionals."

Kipsombe were 2-0 winners over Paul Boit in a Pool 'B' encounter.

In boys' volleyball, Mutwot became the first school to qualify for the quarterfinals of the championships after winning their two preliminary Pool 'D' matches.

They beat Torochmoi 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 23-25, 18-25) before whipping Kosachei 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-23, 25-18).

In Pool 'B' Tuiyo posted mixed results after one win and a defeat in their opening matches.

They lost 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-20) to Chebisaas before beating Kiplombe 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-16).
