A suspected thief has been lynched in Katani, Machakos County.
The unidentified man was subjected to mob injustice after residents caught him with his accomplices loading a herd of cattle they had reportedly stolen into a lorry on Wednesday morning.
The incident happened at Seme village near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Katani within the Mlolongo division, Athi River subcounty.
County police boss Patrick Lobolia said the incident was reported at Muungano police station as a mob injustice incident by Katani assistant chief Nicholas Wambua through a phone call.
"The assistant chief reported that there was a vehicle burning near Muungano police station. Officers from the station rushed to the scene and established that a group of people attempted to steal cattle from a Masai Manyatta in the Viraj area," he said.
The police boss said an unknown man was killed and the body was moved to the City Mortuary pending an autopsy and identification.
He said one of the suspects identified as Peter King'ori sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Komarock Hospital in Utawala for first aid before he was referred to Mama Lucy Hospital in critical condition.
Lobolia said the wreckage was towed to Muungano police station as Mlolongo DCI launched investigations into the incident.
