Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will on Tuesday lead a fundraising event for the victims of the Londiani accident.

In a statement on Monday, Labour CS Florence Bore said preparations are underway for the event at Londiani grounds.

"We assessed the grounds and took the opportunity to speak with the community," she said.

Kericho Governor Erick Mutai on Sunday confirmed that 52 people died following the grisly accident.

Traders who were selling farm produce at the roadside market were not spared as a number of them perished in the road crash.

“Among the casualties, we have admitted 6 of them in our Kericho County Referral Hospital and Londiani Sub County Hospital, while one is in critical condition at Kericho County Referral Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit,” Mutai said.

Thirty-seven bodies out of the 52 people who perished in the Londiani Junction Market road crash were as of Sunday identified.

Londiani Sub-County Hospital Medical Superintendent, Collins Kipkoech said 18 bodies have been picked by relatives for burial arrangements at their respective homes even as tracing and identification continue in different hospitals that handled the casualties.

He said 49 people who died are at the Londiani Hospital, two at the Kericho County Referral Hospital and another one died at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital in Nakuru.

Kipkoech said seven of the identified bodies are awaiting post-mortem before they can be released to relatives while 12 have not been identified.
