Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has applauded President William Ruto for keeping his promises.

This is after Ruto sent him to deliver the Sh5 million donation he pledged to Kianjai Girls Secondary School in Tigania West, Meru County for the construction of an administration block.

According to Gachagua, during the election campaigns, Ruto had promised the school a new administration block.

While addressing the school, he said Ruto is good at keeping promises.

"We were here with the President during the campaigns of the last General Election. He promised you that once elected, he would help in building a new administration block of this school. Now the president has sent me to bring you money to build that block,” Gachagua said.

He also assured farmers of the government's commitment to making the miraa crop more profitable.

“Miraa is a source of livelihood for many families, therefore, we will work with other stakeholders to reexamine the cash crop to facilitate exclusion from drugs,” Gachagua said.

He added that the Kenya Kwanza Administration prioritises reforms in the agriculture sector to uplift farmers for a stronger economy.

Gachagua said the government is supporting initiatives of finding new high-value markets for miraa and other crops.

"Three weeks ago, we had a coffee forum here in Meru. We will also have an engagement on tea, milk and all the cash crops grown in this region. We are also working to improve the lives of miraa farmers. We will appoint a few farmers from Meru to go abroad and look for more markets for the crop,” Gachagua said.

He also emphasised the importance of fighting drugs and substance abuse adding that the war will continue until dignity among youths is restored.

He was accompanied by Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Labor CS Simon Chelugui, and other leaders.
