His name is Imam Rashid Hussein. He is the go-to person in the entire Karuguru area of Ruiru constituency when it comes to slaughtering animals for Muslim festivities.
The Star caught up with him on Wednesday, a day Muslim faithful were celebrating Eid-Ul-Adha festivities.
Hussein was at the Ruiru Jamia Mosque slaughtering a goat to mark the celebrations. He is given priority for the work, he revealed.
"A total of 102 goats will be slaughtered today as a way to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's devotion to Allah and his readiness to sacrifice his son, Ismail moreover being provided with a sheep in place if Ismail," Hussein said.
He said that during such festivities, Muslims mostly prefer bucks (male goats) to nannies (female goats).
"Male goats are the most preferred to female because we have encountered cases of expectant goats and cows which is very unfair to end the life of an innocent creature," Hussein said.
He also added that the meat will be distributed in 1kg or 2kg bags to neighbouring mosques within Ruiru constituency.
The meat is shared out to different families, both Muslims and non Muslims, especially the needy.
"Non Muslims also join in the slaughter house for ease of work and later the meat is distributed widely without favour of religion thus the celebration brings unity to all," Hussein said.
The Eid-Ul-Adha celebrations will go on for three days it being the second Eid for all Muslim faithful.
