A woman’s body was on Thursday retrieved from her house in Athi River East, Machakos County.
Beth Wanjiku Mwangi was found murdered inside her house and the body hidden under her bed at Kausyani village in Muthwani, Lukenya location.
Athi River subcounty criminal investigations officer John Kanda said they suspect the deceased was murdered by someone close to her.
"The deceased is suspected to have been killed by someone close to her who is still at large,” Kanda told the Star at his office in Athi River hours after the incident.
The chief detective said several crude weapons including two swords, a kitchen knife, one claw bar, one broken wooden jembe handle and a plastic chair were recovered from the scene of crime.
He said the incident was reported at Joska Police Station at 3pm on Thursday.
Kanda said the report was made by a village elder. Area OCS, DCI and scenes of crime officers rushed to the scene and established the facts as reported.
The body had started decomposing. Kanda said police have launched investigations into the incident to establish the motive behind the murder.
He said the scene was processed and the body moved to Kangundo Level Four Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
