State to construct cross-community schools in North Rift Valley counties

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has said the government will construct cross-community schools in Elgeyo Marakwet, Turkana, Samburu, Laikipia, West Pokot and Baringo to promote peaceful coexistence and integration.

The CS said education is listed as a key change agent in six North Rift Valley counties that have experienced insecurity.

Kindiki spoke after he held a meeting with security, political, religious, and community leaders from Elgeyo Marakwet and Baringo.

The meeting was held at Dira Primary School in Tiaty.

Earlier, the CS  held a security briefing meeting and Intelligence Committees of West Pokot.

He met elected, community, and religious leaders at Dira Primary School in Tiaty for consultation on security, peacebuilding, and development.

CS Kindiki visited sites where five cross-community schools were at the intersection of Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo and West Pokot.

The visit aims to encourage education uptake, integrate children from different communities at an early age and limit their recruitment into banditry.

He will later address a public security baraza at Chesogon, at the border of West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet and Baringo Counties
