Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba on Wednesday received sports attire inspired by Kenya's cultural heritage and tradition.
Wanja, a Kenyan designer who specializes in sports apparel and uniforms, paid the CS a courtesy visit and took him through her fashion design works as she displayed her mastery in the fashion and design arena.
On receiving the sportswear, Namwamba praised the designer for using her talents for monetary gain.
"This is what we are talking about, using your talents to put money in your pocket," he said.
Wanja who manufactures sports apparel using in-house designed textiles inspired by Kenyan culture, heritage, and tradition boasts a clientele of world-beating athletes who she credits for taking her fashion to the world.
On marrying sports and fashion, Wanja said that local designers need partnerships to help design Kenya's official sportswear.
"Adidas creates uniforms for team Great Britain, made by local UK designers. In the same way, we can find a workable solution, where local designers can be co-opted in such partnerships to help in designing our official sportswear," she said.
The CS who has so often stated that sportsmen and women are Kenya’s number one branding assets, assured Wanja of his ministry's support for such local talents, to elevate their hustles in line with the 'Talanta Hela' initiative whose aim is to monetize talents and put 'pesa mfukoni' for them.
