A Citizen TV investigative journalist Purity Mwambia has been trending on Twitter for the better part of Friday morning and afternoon.

This comes after the journalist revealed the challenges she has been going through since she went into exile in the United States of America.

The journalist fled the country in 2021 following death threats after an exposé on rogue police officers.

Recently in an interview, she said she had been abandoned by the organisation that had taken her to the US.

"Personally, I was brought here by an organisation and they abandoned me. They left me, I'm on the verge of homelessness because I don't know what to do next," she said.

"Every day when I walk past all these metro buses and I see these homeless people. It's one of those stories I would have loved to tell as a journalist, but now I walk as if I'm literally in their shoes, not knowing what’s going to happen to me."

She spoke on Tuesday when she appeared at a  conference organised by the US Department of State to discuss the unique challenges faced by women in the news industry.

Mwambia had appeared on the panel discussion hosted by the Bureau of Global Public Affairs.

Among the topics of discussion were women living in exile because of their journalistic work.

Mwambia further said since she went into exile, she felt as if she had not grown much in her career, adding that her 20-year experience was almost going to waste.

The journalist fled after her investigative work dubbed 'Guns Galore' exposed how rogue cops were hiring out their guns, ammunition, handcuffs, and uniform to criminals.

They would then get a cut of what the thugs got from their crimes.

Mwambia became a target by various government security agencies who had been offended by the exposé.
