Ruto: Russia-Ukraine war should be resolved peacefully

He said countries might find themselves in a similar position if the issue is not resolved.

The raging Russia-Ukraine war discussion was a topic of discussion as President William Ruto hosted Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the State House on Monday.

Ruto maintained Kenya's steadfast position on respect for the territorial integrity of member States as outlined in the UN Charter.

"Kenya calls for a resolution of the conflict in a manner respectful to the two parties," he said.

Lavrov was in Nairobi on his way to a meeting of the BrazilRussiaIndiaChina, and South Africa (BRICS)Ministers of Foreign and International Relations in Cape Town, South Africa.

As of today,  the Russia-Ukraine war has entered day 460.

Earlier in March this year and wading into the Russia-Ukraine war, Ruto explained that Kenya is a believer in the UN Charter.

"Kenya is a great believer and signatory to the UN Charter, which speaks directly to a rules-based globe that ensures that there is respect for countries and their boundaries," he said.

"Any violation of the UN Charter by anybody in whatever manner is a threat to violation of the Charter."

The Head of State further highlighted that all countries might find themselves in a similar position if the issue is not resolved.

Ruto explained that the issues between the two countries can be resolved if the global rules are respected.

"Today it is Russia and Ukraine. You never know who it will be tomorrow if we allow this to go on. So our position has been this can be resolved. We must respect the UN Charter," he said.

"That's the position of Kenya. That's the position of the UN and any country that subscribes to the UN Charter and as you say, correctly."
