In Summary

• Nderitu said she does not understand how the letter he wrote on May 19, confirming the ouster of Kioni and Jubilee vice chairman David Murathe was dated.

The Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu has responded to claims by embattled Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni.

Speaking on Friday, Nderitu said she does not understand how the letter he wrote on May 19, confirming the ouster of Kioni and Jubilee vice chairman David Murathe was dated.

She went on to explain that letters are written on different dates but because of the time it takes to process and send, the recipient gets it a few days later.

She said for the case of Jubilee, the letter was written on a Friday and was delivered on Monday because of the weekend.

"We have not given any other letter apart from that one given on 19th May. A letter could be written on the 5th and you receive it on 10th because it has to be processed.

"I am lost when I hear of backdating. For us, it was only a weekend in between and we sent it on Monday. There is no other letter written with a different date," Nderitu said.

She also insisted that as far as the letter is concerned, two Jubilee officials were removed from office.

On Wednesday, Kioni warned the Registrar over her alleged role in falsifying the documents used in their ouster.

He said Nderitu had misused her office in exercising other mandates contrary to what she is supposed to.

“Clearly we saw the backdating letter that she tried to use to justify her cause. The mail was sent on May 22 after the Jubilee National Delegates Conference (NDC) event but the letter is dated May 19, 2023,” Kioni said.

Kioni had also filed a petition at the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal challenging the decision.

PPDT chairperson Desma Nungo, then granted conservatory orders barring the Registrar of Political Parties from approving the expulsion of Jeremiah Kioni from the Jubilee party.
