Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on Friday re-opened the Kitale bus park which had been temporarily shut due to wrangles between park operators.

Natembeya had closed the park over wrangles between boda boda operators and matatu touts that had threatened peace over alleged poor management of the facility.

The bus park was re-opened by Natembeya with a new leadership order drawn from the county administration, national transport safety authority, matatu owners, touts and hawkers having representatives in the committee.

“This team will be charged with the responsibility of the daily operation of the bus terminus,” said the governor.

Governor Natembeya while presiding over the re-opening of the bus park, said there is no way the bus park constructed by taxpayers money could be left to be run by cartels.

He noted that his decision to reduce tax for small-scale traders is informed by the high cost of living which has affected every citizen.

Natembeya further noted that soon another market will be built along the railways to decongest the Masinde Muliro Ultra Modern Trading Centre which is near completion.

He said the new market-cum bus park will also ease parking which is already a challenge now.

The governor further noted that the Trans Nzoia county government is in consultation with the national government to hasten the relocation of the medium prison in the central business district to pave the way for the expansion of Kitale town, whose population has ballooned over the recent years.

The function was attended by the county secretary, Truphosa Amere, CECs Stanley Kirui (Trade and Industrialisation), Janerose Mutama (Lands), Jackson Amboka (Roads and Public Works) and Samson Ojwang (Public Service Management), Deputy County Commander Francis Gaitiriria, Chief Officer Philp Kaptein (Lands) and Omar Ndiema among other top ranking county and national government officials.
