Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua has claimed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations violated former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga's right to legal representation.

In a statement, Karua said DCI officers demonstrated thuggery instead of professionalism.

"DCI is violating Njenga’s right to legal representation and we fear they will prejudice his rights to a fair trial," she said.

"DCI used trickery to separate Maina Njenga from his lawyers who included several Azimio principals and sneaked him out of DCI offices Kiambu Road to an undisclosed destination."

Karua called on human rights and investigative organisations to protect the safety of Njenga.

This is after the ex-Mungiki leader presented himself to DCI headquarters for questioning.

Azimio leaders and supporters gathered outside the DCI offices in solidarity with Njenga.

He spent more than two hours inside the  offices and was not seen walking out of the headquarters.

His lawyer Ndegwa Njiru confirmed that he was not at Kiambu courts as assumed earlier.

"I went to  Kiambu law courts and my client was not there," he said.

Police told the Star that Maina Njenga was on his way to Nakuru where he surrendered himself on Wednesday.

But reports later emerged that the ex-Mungiki leader was in Nanyuki.

Embattled Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni termed the accusations against Njenga as harassment and a political witch-hunt.

"Njenga was lied to. We were consulting. Then the DCI called him to consult with him but they blocked the lawyers who wanted to join him, " he said.

Kioni said Njenga was not allowed to take a plea in Nakuru on Wednesday and that he was being asked to take a plea today ( Thursday).
