A team of detectives was sent to a village in Mai Mahiu area, Nakuru County to hunt down on a gang that shot and seriously wounded a man during a robbery incident.

The victim was shot and wounded in the abdomen and shoulder after he tried to respond to a neighbour’s call for help following a robbery at the weekend, police said.

A gang had camped at the gate of a businessman operating in the town and waylaid him as he drove into the compound.

The businessman told police he had arrived at his home in Georges area in the company of his wife on May 19 night when four men covered with hoods and one armed with an AK47 rifle accosted and forced them to open the gate while beating them.

They then ransacked their house and robbed them Sh10,000 and two mobile phones.

On their way out, they met up with a neighbour who was responding to the commotion from the victims and shot him twice injuring him on the right shoulder and abdomen before they disappeared into darkness.

The victim was rushed to Mai Mahiu dispensary where he was admitted in serious condition, police said.

Police say no arrest or recovery was made and a hunt for the gunmen is ongoing.

A team of detectives was Monday sent to the area to pursue the incident amid concerns from locals of increased crime in general.
