Several cartons of illicit liquor were also confiscated in the ongoing crackdown on counterfeit and illegal brews across the country, police announced Friday.

In a statement, the National police service said two men were arrested in Kericho and the other one in Muranga.

They were found selling second-generation liquors.

In a similar operation in Machakos, security officers in collaboration with the Kenya revenue authority (KRA) officials managed to net 34 cartons of similar brew.

"In Murang'a, a multiagency team raided a stage bar in Gacharage where 33 cartons of liquor and crates were confiscated," the statement read.

The ongoing crackdown comes a  month after Deputy President  Rigathi Gachagua declared a nationwide operation on the sale of illicit brews saying it has continued to claim the lives of many youths.

"If measures are not taken urgently, we will lose a productive age bracket of our people and we might lose the entire generation. I can confirm that we have a serious problem and we are worried that all sorts of drugs are now found in the villages and small towns," Gachagua said.
