As the Vice President of Colombia Francia Mina is in Kenya for an official visit, Kenyans in Colombia want the government to set up an embassy in the foreign nation.

Among those who spoke to the Star on the phone said that the lack of a Kenyan Embassy in Colombia has made access to State Service difficult for many of them.

Douglas Nyongesa, a Kenyan in Columbia, said there is a massive migration of Kenyans to Columbia in the recent past.

This, he says, has necessitated the need for an embassy that will address several issues among them, their welfare.

" We hope that from the Bilateral talks our Deputy PresidentRigathi Gachagua will look for ways of engaging the Vice President and from that, we hope that the government will establish an embassy in Colombia, as we face difficulties whenever we require the government's assistance, " Nyongesa said.

He added:

"There is a need to explore numerous opportunities between Kenya, Colombia, and Latin America. In general, the Kenyan community in Colombia is optimistic that the Colombia Vice President's visit to Kenya will have a positive impact on the relationship between the two countries. We wish her all the best in her trip to Africa," he added.

VP Mina arrived in the country on Sunday for a four-day state visit that will end on May 17.

The visit of the Vice President aims at enhancing the existing bilateral ties in a number of areas for the benefit of the people of Kenya and Colombia.

On Monday, Gachagua hosted VP Mina and her delegation at the Deputy President's Official Residence in Karen, Nairobi, for bilateral political consultations.

The visit comes even as Kenya rallies a global campaign aimed at attracting quality investments.
