Police are investigating an incident in which a 10-year-old girl was found dead in their house in a suspected suicide in Kasarani area, Nairobi.

The body of the grade four pupil was on Tuesday, May 9 evening found hanging on a piece of cloth tied around her neck in her bedroom.

Her mother told police their house girl called to report the deceased’s body was hanging in the bedroom.

The body was found lying on the edge of a double-decker bed while squatting facing downwards with a piece of cloth round her neck.

The family rushed her to a nearby clinic where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The family told police they had not seen any signs of stress to alert them that could have led to her actions.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy, police said.

The motive of the incident is yet to be known.

In Ngarua area, Nyahururu, the body of Ibrahim Mwangi Kaburu was found dangling from the roof of his house after an apparent suicide.

The motive behind the incident was not immediately known, police said.

Cases of suicide involving both adults and children have been on the rise at an alarming rate.

Police reports show most of the victims die out of various forms of stress. Up to three cases are recorded daily at an alarming rate, police say.
