Canada-based Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna has disclosed the only two conditions that would make him join Raila Odinga-led protests.

Speaking on TRT World, the lawyer said as it is now, the protests are founded on mischief and run by hypocrites.

He said if the protests by the opposition were led by genuine and progressive leaders, he would join them.

Miguna said if they were about the high cost of living, unemployment or social justice, he would support them, but that is not the case.

"If these protestors were led by genuine, revolutionary or progressive leaders, I would have supported and joined them. If their protest was strictly against the standard of living, high unemployment, police brutality or extrajudicial killings, I would be for them but that's not what they are," he said.

Miguna who served as Raila's advisor when he was Prime Minister questioned the motive behind the protests.

He noted that Raila disappeared for some months after the August polls before he returned with the calls for protests.

"These protests were called by Raila Odinga after eight months of hiding or after having accepted the results of the election for personal reasons," he said.

Miguna said during the interview that the protests would amount to nothing. He said they were out of selfish reasons.

He insisted that Raila should have led protests from 2017 when Uhuru Kenyatta was president if he was genuine.

"He said if he were to become president he would pursue and continue the tyrannical policies of Uhuru Kenyatta. So when he says he is leading protests, he is leading protests for himself," Miguna said.

"This is a selfish man who is only interested in his stomach and that of his cronies. There is no way these protests could lead to anything better for Kenyans. When the cost of living was at its highest, Uhuru Kenyatta was president and Raila Odinga was supporting him."
