Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has revealed that 65 people have so far been rescued alive Shakahola Forest where more than 100 others were found buried in shallow graves.
The CS said during his visit to the gravesite that two of the victims were rescued on Tuesday when search and exhumation exercise resumed.
"Sixty five persons have been rescued from the thickets, including two who were evacuated Tuesday morning by the multi-agency security team," he said.
Kindiki was speaking on Tuesday at Shakahola in Kilifi County where he had gone to oversee the resumption of the second phase of exhumation of bodies.
The CS explained that the process is a legal, medical and human rights exercise.
"The exercise that must be undertaken methodically and carefully to protect the dignity and privacy of families of the deceased persons," he said.
Kindiki said 25 people have so far been arrested regarding the incident and added that the investigation team is closing in on level two and three perpetrators who aided controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie to execute his agenda.
He gave assurance that the government will avail all information on the ongoing exercise.
Kindiki further explained that the limited access to the exhumation sites is to ensure that there is no violation of fundamental rights.
"The entire 50,000 acre Chakama ranch remains a security area and scene of crime with limited access for all persons who are unauthorised," he said.
