Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli now says that retired President Uhuru Kenyatta is too powerful and he needs to be taken care of.

Speaking on Saturday, Atwoli said that the issue of taking care of former heads of state should be enshrined in the constitution.

"Remember, I warned you in 2017 that the retired Uhuru Kenyatta has too much money and can't just be left alone, he needs to be taken care of. We need to look at this constitution, amend it and say that once a president has served his 10 years he becomes a peacemaker," he said.

Atwoli was responding to calls to unite President William Ruto and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

He said uniting Ruto and Raila should be the work of Uhuru Kenyatta.

Atwoli insisted that a retired head of state has no business taking political sides and that all they should focus on is becoming peacemakers across the world.

"Our retired President should be a peacemaker. You are asking me to reconcile Raila and Ruto. That should be the work of Uhuru Kenyatta. Once you become a retired president you don't need to take political sides. You want to be a peacemaker in your country and an international peacemaker," he said.

Uhuru and Ruto who deputised him for 10 years have not been on talking terms for years.

However, Uhuru peacefully handed over power to Ruto who had won over his preferred candidate Raila Odinga.
