Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has credited achievements made in the DRC peace talks to the parties involved in the process.

The Facilitator of the East African Community (EAC)-led Nairobi Peace Process said the commitment of those involved in ending the over two-decade dire situation and finding a lasting solution to the dispute had seen the realisation of the great milestones.

He spoke on Thursday when he met French Ambassador Arnaud Suquet who paid him a courtesy call.

Suquet lauded the retired President on the achievements.

He also commended Uhuru on the continued collaboration with the Luanda process to restore lasting Peace and Stability in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Ambassador Suquet assured Uhuru of France's continued support of the process.

Through the process, the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) was deployed to stabilise the war-torn eastern DRC.

The Kenya Defence Forces was deployed in Goma city in November 2022 to halt its imminent take over by the M23 rebel fighters.

Other EAC troops started joining the fray in March 2023.

The area has been under violence owing to the existence of armed groups including the M23 and  FARDC.

With the help of the Luanda ceasefire, M23 is withdrawing its fighters and has principally stopped offensive actions in the capital of Kinshasa.

The total withdrawal of M23 from the current areas they occupy to designated cantonment area will usher in the Disarmament, Demobilization, Community Recovery and Stabilization Programme (PDDRCS).
