North Eastern have released the schools to represent the region at the national championships set for next week in Eldoret.

Wajir High will carry the region’s flag in basketball boys following a   48-27 win over Sheikh Ali in the regional final.

Wajir High will face a baptism of fire as they lock horns with defending champions Dr Aggrey, former champions Laiser Hill Academy and Nyanza champions Onjiko School in Pool 'B'.

The girls’ basketball title went to Hon DM Amin following a 14-3 win over Khadija Girls.

In Eldoret, Hon DM Amin will face a herculean task against holders Kaya Tiwi, favourites Butere Girls and Ototo Mixed from Nyanza in Pool 'A'.

Pool 'B' has Clay International School, Loreto Limuru, St Joseph’s Kitale and Our Lady of Mercy.

Sabunley will represent the region in boys’ handball after a hard-fought 9-8 victory over Sheikh Ali while Hon DM Amin edged Banisa15-1 to win the girls’ title.

At the nationals, Sabunley are in Pool ‘B’ alongside Coast region’s Tsangatsini, Musingu and Manyatta from Nyanza region while Pool ‘A’ has Handege, Kamito, Mbooni and Hospital Hill.

North Eastern will not field hockey and rugby teams, according to North Eastern Secondary Schools Sports Association secretary Bishar Bontore.

Bontore said Garissa county did not take part in the one-day event held at Sabunley Secondary School in Wajir.

“Garrissa team would not make it to Wajir because a section of the road between Modohashe and Habaswein was washed away,” said Bontore.

He is optimistic that teams from the region will put up a good fight at the nationals scheduled for Hill School and Moi Girls, Eldoret from April 24 and 29.
