The Interior Ministry is exploring ways of reinforcing its role as a critical enabler of sustainable socio-economic development in the country.

Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the intention is to sharpen the NGAOs structure and make government administrators effective in their responsibilities at the grassroots for efficient delivery of security and citizen services.

"We currently have 14,406 national government administrators across the country, right from the Regional Commissioners down to the Assistant Chiefs. These are our pillars in the provision of security and citizen services," he said.

Omollo noted that the State Department was keen on fully aligning its operations with government’s inclusive socio-economic transformation by ensuring a safe and secure environment for every citizen to participate in nation-building endeavours.

He also undertook to lead from the front in intensifying the coordination, supervision, monitoring and reporting on national government projects and programmes to ensure wananchi get value for their money across all sectors of the economy.

“Maintenance of law and order is our core business, but we are also exploring better ways on how we can engage and work more collaboratively with other agencies and partners to ensure optimum service delivery to mwananchi,” he said.

Among other duties, government administrators also oversee dissemination and implementation of government policies, coordination of security agencies in the field and coordination of disaster management and emergency responses.

These were among submissions made by the PS during the inaugural meeting of all Principal Secretaries chaired by the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

The meeting was held at the Kenya School of Government in Lower Kabete to have State Departments synergise their operations under the all-of-government approach to service delivery.
