20 police officers receive bravery award in Nairobi

Twenty police officers whose services to the country have been outstanding were on Wednesday awarded a bravery award.

DCI Director Mohamed Amin presided over the Chandaria Police bravery award ceremony held at the National Police Service Headquarters in Nairobi.

He said the officers were deserving of the awards for demonstrating the true meaning of public service, by putting their lives on the line for the sake of others.

The Director further noted that the officers nominated for the awards are just a representation of many other officers out there who are always ready to serve the nation in any condition, thus exhibiting the true responsible nature of an ideal police officer.

On his part, Atul Shah, who stood in for Dr. Manu Chandaria commended the awarded officers and the entire National Police Service for the exemplary work they do in making the country safe and secure.

He congratulated the crime busters for their courage throughout their service. He noted that the Chandaria bravery award is a celebration of the bravery and selflessness of gallant officers who risk their lives in the line of duty to save others.

The Chandaria Bravery Award is awarded annually to NPS Officers who exhibit bravery, courage, and selflessness in their service to the country.

One of those awarded was Inspector Silvester Mwabaya who stood out for the humanitarian nature that saw him save a life of a fellow officer from committing suicide with a firearm at NPS-Main Campus Kiganjo on January 19, 2021.

Inspector Oyagi Kiere from Traffic Department was awarded after he secured and surrendered all the Sh450,000 of an accident victim along the Ndara-Nairobi Highway on December 12, 2021.

Constable Driver Nickson Kiplangat from GSU who sustained a gunshot attack from bandits in Kapedo, that led to the amputation of his hand, and constable Geoffrey Okwamong from SOG who sustained a gunshot wound on his right arm which has since resulted in permanent disability were also awarded.
