A decomposed body of a student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture Technology in Juja was found in his room after an apparent suicide.

Fourth-year engineering student Martin Kamondia Muchene stayed at an apartment in Juja where his body was discovered Monday night.

His relatives said he had not been responding to calls until Monday night when they went to check on him at the Princess Apartment in Juja town.

The body was found in his house leaning on the wall with a nylon rope around his neck, police said.

The decomposing body had no visible injuries.

It is not clear when the incident happened but police who attended the scene said they suspect he died at the weekend given the body had decomposed.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy to establish how he died.

Police said they are yet to know the motive of the incident.

The university management said they are waiting for police investigations to establish how he died.

Cases of suicide have been on the rise amid calls to arrest the trend. Up to four cases are reported daily.

The government says it has put in place various measures to address the menace.

In Kakamega, the body of 67-year-old Betty Malanga Mukhwana was found dangling from the rooftop of her pit latrine with a nylon rope around her neck.

The motive of the incident is yet to be known.

The body was removed to Kakamega hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
