UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala has called on the Opposition to end their weekly planned protests.
Speaking on Tuesday, he said the demos not only affect the people in Nairobi but also various sectors that bring finances to the country.
“If they conduct maandamano in Nairobi, the public perception and image they are portraying to the international community will stop tourists from coming to Kenya. The effects of this maandamano affects people even in Maasai Mara,” Malala said.
The former Kakamega Senator asked the Opposition to let the government work as it is trying to rebuild the country.
Malala further stated that the Opposition simply wanted a handshake but assured them that with the Kenya Kwanza government, that will not happen.
“Stop these maandamano shenanigans and let us build Kenya. We are trying to rebuild this government but these people what they want is simply a handshake,” he noted.
Malala revealed that some of the Azimio people are the government’s customers and they initiate handshake talks at night.
The UDA SG explained that there are high-level meetings behind the scenes.
However, he claimed that the Azimio people are begging the state not to embarrass them as they are unable to come out of this quagmire.
“We want to assure them that this time round we are very focused. The people ( Azimio) talk to us at night and what they are bargaining for is simply a handshake,” he stated.
Despite the handshake talks, Opposition Chief Raila Odinga has publicly said he is not after it.
He has maintained his actions are to force the government to lower the cost of living among other issues affecting Kenyans.
