Lawyer Miguna Miguna has told off Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o over his statement on the chaos witnessed in Kisumu.

He said the governor should take responsibility for the actions of his goons instead of blaming other people.

Miguna urged the Kisumu Governor not to underestimate the intelligence of the people.

"Take responsibility for your goons. Don’t underestimate our intelligence with this verbiage" he said.

In his statement, Nyong'o said Kisumu county residents were peacefully protesting until goons joined with unknown intentions.

He said the goons are the ones who started destroying properties in the lakeside city.

"The demonstrations were largely peaceful until a few hooligans whose mission is yet to be established infiltrated the crowd and started destroying property. These criminals posing as opposition supporters stoned and damaged part of a hotel, a bank, Supermarket and a shopping mall within the Central Business District," Nyong'o said.

The governor also condemned the attacks, saying he believes in peaceful protests.

He called on the police to investigate the matter and have the perpetrators brought to book.

Nyong'o also called the residents of Kisumu to protect their city.

"I appeal to the people of Kisumu to help protect the image and investments in the city and its environs. In future demonstrations, our people should apprehend and hand over to the police, anyone damaging property."

On Monday, Kisumu city was one of the cities that heeded the call by Opposition leader Raila Odinga to hold peaceful protests.

Several properties were damaged in the city. One person was also shot dead.

Nairobi saw most businesses closed because of the chaos caused by the protests.
