This is part of the environmental pillar in their sustainability program.

"So far we’ve planted over 100,000 trees, mostly in the North Rift and Nairobi counties through partnerships with Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company and Kenya Forest Service and aim to have sustainable projects across all our destinations," he said.

Speaking to the media during the exercise, Ndegwa added that the main aim of partnerships is to promote sustainable preservation of the mangrove ecosystem for the well-being of the adjacent forest communities and for climate change resilience.

The Kenyan Coast is facing about 80 per cent loss of the mangrove cover due to climate change and human factors.

Big Ship Director Bosco Juma decried the high level of pollution saying it is hampering their efforts to restore mangrove forest cover.

He said they were working closely with the department of environment to ensure clean-up exercises are carried out regularly.

"We're also experiencing encroachment of Mangrove ecosystem and riparian areas which hinders our restoration efforts but we happy to see communities around being integrated into the project by way of providing labour and selling of seedlings which now support the youth and women financially," Juma said.

Earlier in the year, the government launched the Panda Miti initiative with the goal of achieving 30 per cent forest cover by planting 15 billion trees by 2027.

The initiative encourages each individual, especially the key stakeholders both in the private and public sectors, to partner with conservation organizations to achieve the goal.

In addition to tree planting, Jambo Jet noted that it employs sustainable business practices in its day-to-day operations.

It's fleet of Dash 8-400 is the first regional aircraft and only turbo-prop aircraft that is certified by the FAA and EASA to the most stringent noise emission standards, delivering low community noise during take-off and landing.

Further, the airline is cutting fuel burn and emissions by turning to smarter systems as a step towards a greener future for African aviation through a new operations system from Laminaar Aviation Infotech (ARMS).

The planning system helps optimize flight plans, cut fuel consumption, and reduce emissions.
