Kisumu Central Business District remained a ghost town on Monday ahead of Azimio la Umoja mega protest.
As seen by the Star, shops along Oginga Odinga streets remained closed and only a few people were seen walking on the streets.
Businesses closed with minimal activity in Kisumu’s Kondele and Kibos areas, a handful of PSV vehicles at the Kisumu bus terminus
The county began the protests last week ahead of the mega demos in Nairobi.
County assembly speaker Elisha Oraro called on all Kenyans and citizens within the county to join them from tomorrow.
"Kenyans who feel the high cost of living is skyrocketing should join us in the demonstrations," he said last week.
Peaceful demonstrations by hundreds of Kisumu were on Sunday disrupted by armed supporters of Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
The supporters who were armed with stones and clubs pelted the demonstrators with stones forcing them to run for their safety.
Led by ODM official Obungu Owich, the agitated youths charged towards the peaceful protesters who were promoting peace at the United Mall area before police arrived at the scene.
Raila's supporters said those holding peaceful demonstrations were opposing the planned Monday mass action.
