As the Azimio team snaked through Kamukunji, Eastleigh, Juja Road and Mathare area, one song was constant on the sound system.
The song goes- Jeshi ya Baba, sisi ni wa Baba, Baba, Raila Odinga uko juu kabisa.
The song was sung by a team dubbed 'jeshi ya baba amapiano' featuring musician Frasha.
It comes in the Amapiano, genre popular in South Africa.
The song was released seven months ago, a few weeks before the 2022 August polls.
The Azimio team includes Rarieda MP Otiende Amolo, former Raila's running mate Martha Karua, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Babu Owino (Embakasi East ) and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga among other leaders.
Raila was flanked by other Azimio leaders as they confronted the anti-riot police.
The two sides had a standoff of close to 10 minutes before the police retaliated and teargassed the mob in an attempt to disperse them.
However, the opposition turned away through Valley Road and joined Uhuru Highway.
Attempts to enter the CBD were futile as police had blocked most roads leading towards the city centre.
The protests have been witnessed in Nairobi, Kitale, Homa Bay and Kisumu.
Businesses remained closed with minimal activity in these areas as residents braced for Raila Odinga's protest calls.
A handful of PSV vehicles were seen at the bus termini.
Some residents stayed away while others took to the streets where they burnt tyres on the roadside.
