The party, which is a member of opposition chief Raila Odinga's Azimio La Umoja coalition, has insisted that it will collaborate and cooperate with Ruto for the interest of Kenyans.

However, UPA which is led by Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo, insisted that, while it will work with the national government, it has not ditched the Azimio coalition.

According to the Nation Nyaribo said the party held a meeting at Kamel Park Hotel in Kisii on Monday and ratified a resolution to support the national government going forward.

“I want to make it clear that we have not joined Kenya Kwanza and we will not fold to join the United Democratic Alliance. But we have decided to work with the government of the day,” Nyaribo said.

UPA bagged majority seats in Nyamira County Assembly in the last general election and several other ward and parliamentary posts in the neighbouring Kisii county.

Nyaribo said the decision to work with the Kenya Kwanza government was endorsed during the meeting with the party's elected leaders for the better good of the electorate.

The party's position means that UPA leaders will keep off the planned Azimio protests against President Ruto's government.

In a quick rejoinder, ODM national Treasurer Timothy Bosire termed as good riddance, Nyaribo's decision to work with Ruto, saying the move confirms fears that he has all along been a 'stooge'.

“Regrettably, he has joined the bandwagon at the expense of service to his people....the early he exits the better because for over 10 years Nyamira has been wasted away due to wanting leadership,”  Bosire said.

Since the last general election, Nyaribo has been lying low opting to concentrate on county matters.

He has also not been attending Azimio rallies including skipping Raila's recent tour of the Gusii region.

Nyaribo joins a growing list of Azimio-allied governors who have declared their support for Ruto's administration.
