ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has reacted after Kisumu protesters on Wednesday stormed a function in Kisumu and destroyed properties.

The Azimio protesters disrupted the World Consumers Rights Day celebration which was organised by the Communication Authority forcing the function to end prematurely.

In a statement, Owalo said that Kenya does not have a place for such an act saying it is regrettable.

"This is lowly banditry and hooliganism. It is hugely regrettable. There is no place for such base conduct in the social order," he said.

"It is regrettable that a group of youth, ostensibly doing a demo in Kisumu, this morning disrupted an official function of the Communication Authority (CA), presided over by the CA Director General Ezra Chiloba."

He said according to eyewitnesses, property of unknown value was destroyed.

"They also threw objects at  Chiloba’s official vehicle, in an attempt to vandalize it Chiloba and other CA officials and guests narrowly escaped unhurt," Owalo added.

The protestors stormed the CA event after they had just finalised their anti-government protest in the lakeside city.

The demonstrators reportedly stormed the venue to seek an audience with Owalo.

They claimed Owalo was being used by President William Ruto to destabilise the region and go against Raila.

However, Owalo was not present at the function which was officially opened by CA boss Ezra Chiloba.

Chiloba and a host of other leaders at the function were forced to leave in a huff after it became apparent that things were getting out of hand.

The residents after realising Owalo was not present went straight to the catering tent, where they took the food, chased away the participants, ate everything and broke plates and cups in the tent.

At the main events podium, they stormed in and sat on the panellist chairs as others carried away seats, cameras and even glass tools that were in the VIP section.
