Russian Embassy in Kenya has supported the government's stand on LGBTQ+.

Through its official Twitter account, the embassy said traditional values of a country shall be protected, noting that without intervention, humanity is doomed.

"That is only the beginning, the West will come for more. Traditional values shall be protected, otherwise, humanity is doomed," the tweet read.

"Not parent 1 and parent 2, but family! Not rules, but law!"

The Embassy was responding in support of remarks made by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who attributed same-sex marriages and relationships to Satanic beliefs.

“Those are satanic beliefs, and we do not want them. That contradicts what we believe in,” Gachagua noted.

“President Ruto is God-fearing, he’s a man of faith, and he will do what needs to be done. In any case, we have our traditions and customs and what they are suggesting is repugnant to morality and our way of life,” he added.

On Thursday, President William Ruto termed homosexuality and same-sex marriage as immoral and unconstitutional and pledged they would not be tolerated in Kenya under his watch.

Ruto's tough talk comes amid national outrage triggered by the Supreme Court’s decision allowing the registration of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) associations.

Ruto said he respects the apex court decision but there is no room for same-sex marriage in Kenya.

The act, he noted, flies in the face of the country’s laws and societal norms that make Kenya and will not be tolerated.

“You know me very well, I am a God-fearing man and whatever happened at the court, even if we respect the court, our culture, values, Christianity and Islam cannot allow women to marry each other, or men to marry fellow men,” he said.

"We can’t travel the road of women marrying women or men marrying men. That will not happen under my watch.”
