The Kenya Revenue Authority has clarified that they have not scrapped Tax Reliefs as claimed by reports.

The authority said they have only suspended it.

In a statement, KRA said the suspension will ensure that operational aspects of the implementation of the law are streamlined to ensure fairness.

"The statement clarifies on the suspension of the provision of reliefs, particularly with reference to refunds, waivers exemptions and abandonments," it read.

"This does not mean that the reliefs have been scrapped. The scraping of reliefs can only be done through an amendment of the law."

KRA said that suspension will also enhance equity and effectiveness in the implementation of the legal provisions.

The tax authority said taxpayers should note that past or current relief applications that have been submitted to KRA will still be processed.
